We began the day with a joint 3rd / 4th grade scavenger hunt as a way for the students to learn more about their classmates, teachers, rooms and resources. They embraced the challenge and worked together to find out the length of my classroom using "students" as a unit of measure, the second to last Roald Dahl book in the rooms (alphabetically speaking) and the meaning of Mister Spock's message of, "Esse honestum. Esse utilis."
We have begun reading, "The 13 1/2 Lives of Captain Bluebear" by Author / Illustrator, Walter Moers. Students worked on answering reading comprehension questions and crafting short dramatic summaries of the initial chapters, to be presented next week.
On Friday, our class joined Mr. B's 3rd / 4th grade class in search of totems staffs for the children.. Having selected suitable branches, the students will then use wood burning tools to record aspects of each theme with which they specifically connected, documenting their educational journey throughout the year.
